El Cayo Project - El Cayo lies between Piedras Negras Guatemala, and Yaxchilan Mexico, on both margins of the Usumacinta river which constitutes the natural boundary. A Late Classic Maya site (ca. AD 600 to 800), which was part of the Piedras Negras political sphere. It was first visited by Teobert Maler in 1897 who discovered and recorded various monuments.
